Learn How to Pro Pack a Parachute
- Drop the parachute and walk backwards stretching the lines to full length.
- Set the brakes. If you do not know how to set the brakes then ask your instructor.
- Walk up the lines making sure they are clear, no line twists and No STEP THROUGHS. Again, if you do not know how to do this, as your instructor.
- Locate the nose and count the 9 cells or 7 cells if you are jumping a 7 cell canopy. An easy way to do this is to find the stabilizer which usually has a logo on it. Begin counting the cells from there.
- Put the nose of the canopy between your legs.
- Check the A, B, C and D lines and Flake the Canopy.
- Quarter the Slider. Make sure the slider is all the way up! If it is not there is a very good chance that you will have a very hard and fast opening. Ouch!
- Pull the tail up to the slider. Most Canopies have the Warning Label in the center of the tail. Use the Warning Label as your reference.
- Gently pull the tail and wrap it around. Use the Patented PD (Performance Desingns) Knee Trick for this.
- Once you have wrapped both sides of the tail begin to gently make a few rolls using the tail seam as a start.
- Place the canopy on the ground. Do Not BODY SLAM the Canopy! Doing so can cause your neatly stacked lines to separate causing a greater risk for a Line Over.
- Lay on the Canopy and get the air out.
- Cacoon or Sausage the Canopy.
- S Fold the Canopy – If you do not know how to do this ask your Skydiving Instructor.
- Open the Deployment Bag
- Place the Canopy into the D-Bag. This is your right of passage Grasshoppa!
- Close the Bag
- Begin Your Stows – Try to keep your stows straight and tidy. No Spaghetti Lines.
- Place the D-Bag into the Container.
- Make sure to have the bridle come out of the the tray.
- Close the Container. Most containers close in this order: Bottom, Top, Right, Left.
- Insert the Closing Pin into the Closing Loops.
- Make sure there is slack in the Bridle where it lies above the Closing Pin. Most bridles have some velcro on them. Use the
- Velcro as a reference. If unsure, you guessed it. Ask your Instructor!
- Tuck in all the excess bridle.
- Fold and Stow Your Pilot Chute! You do know how to fold your Pilot Chute don’t you?
- Do a Complete Gear Check and go to Manifest and Get on a Load!
